With a 20lb longbow like mine, it will prove quite a challenge indeed . With a 25lb bowhunter like the one above it seems much more doable, tough :)
I'll probably enter just for fun, but don't expect miracles. As an alchemist bows are not my strong point...

Please add to your rules, that magic is not allowed. I just want to prevent, that someone make a deal with aeris ;).

Depends on what bow you use. With a 25lbs recurve-hunting-bow, for example a crow by bearpaw, you can shoot up to 50 m with an IDV-Arrow.

But, sure you're right, it will be hard to hit the bull's eye. Btw, that's the callenge.

It should be challenging... and with a bow like you have linked it is quite possible to hit. But when I think about most bows used by larpers, 20 meters is probably a bit more than possible.
I own two bows myself: One which is similar to the one you linked, which is technically legal since it is a 25 lbs bow, but which I would NEVER use against anyone in LARP (I did that once and it resulted in multiple bruises) and another one, which is safe to use but wouldn't hit a barn from 20 meters away...

Using just the lbs as a limit has never really been a good way to judge a bows viability, but that is another question...

i set up these rules after extensive testing with the bows in our group. They are all between 20 an 25lbs but none of those bows has problems hitting the 20 meter mark. Hitting a 30 by 30 square target might prove a little daunting, but we have instructors in the field in the day(s) before the match that will be more then happy to help you improve your shot.

about magic in the tournament: There is no magic i am aware of in the rules that will make someone shoot more accurate... so i dont know what kind of magic you expect...

Sure it is not the best way to use lbs as limits, especially cause of different constructions of bows with the same strength in lbs can lead to very different velocity of arrows.
But, anyway, as an archer or marksman in LARP you always have to be very carefully. Even a weak bow can lead to bruises or black eyes.

But that is another discussion...

Look at the ;) at the end of Sirams post. He's just kidding, I think ...

Even all archers make deals with Aeris, but only by chance.

Even if there's nothing in the rulebook concerning spells that could enhance an archer's skills, I think it would make sense to include such a rule. Spellcasters are quite a common sight, so forbidding any "magical help" seems like a good idea :)

I suppose you could cast spells and stuff over yourself and your bow and your arrows and evenrything, but at the tournament you will still have to make your arrows hit the target, there will not be anyone to guide your arrows through the air to the center of the target

so magic or no magic, it still comes down to your actual archery skills ;)

I have a 24lbs archery bow (elven hunting bow) and after some practice I can make a hit at a distance of 30 meters, it takes effort and a windy day does make it a challenge, but it is not that hard
don't worry, I won't participate, I will be one of the judges at the archery tournament

Did we mention that along with that shiny trophy there will be prize-money for the winner?

Since I believe in role play over rule play, I think a comment made about no magical assistance makes sense... but its up to the tournament organizers to make their own decisions about what rules they wish to make about the contest... and who gets to compete. :)

EDIT: as a game master though I would like to ask that all bows used be within the bow safety standards of the event and use larp safe arrows.

Hello again,

I thougth this competition will be complett "In-Game" -> So there is realy a chance that someone wants to cheat with some magic stuff. Surely we as player of our charakters will notice some "cloddishness" act, but how you will handle this?

I thougth the addition paragraph in the "corpus of legislation" like: "Magic help is forbidden", will no one hurts and have a chance to more game like a magic referee ....

It was just an idea, but its your contest.
