Hey Guys,

Me and my brother have just started to get into larp and are looking to eventually going to mythodea and drachenfest in the next few years, but we have some questions before we start to build our characters and buy our gear.

First question is: Is drachenfest and mythodea held in the same area? if not how far away are they?

What is the general Kit standard for both events? Are there any kits that are frowned upon?(ninjas, orc ect.)

Do you guys have tents? Because i doubt that we will be able to bring some from Canada.

How many 'Expeditioners' are there and what is the general theme and time period?

Safetywise what sword are viable? Calicimical? How thick do the blades have to be? Can i construct my own?

If I can build my own what do you guys think of a hidden blade?

Lastly i need help deciding between two kits, A templaresc outfit with chainmail, great helm and shield or an Assasins creed style assasin?

I'm from New Zealand and coming to my first Mythodea - and it's been really easy because I've signed on with the Grand Expedition. Rick's a great help and all the community members are friendly and give good advice!

My ticket and tent are sorted - all I do is rock up on the day and meet my new adventuring partners. Couldn't be easier - so I encourage you to participate with the Expedition for sure!

Just a few things to help you with your planning:

Weather:
Germany still benefits from the gulf dtream so 25-30 degrees celsius is normal for summer. You might want to rethink how much clothing you want to carry. At the same time there are also rainy days in summer.

Transport:
In comparison to Canada all lies cloase by here in Germany. Youn can come pretty close with public transport and things can be arranged for the last metres I guess. The problem with chainmail is that you will quickly use up you weight allowance on the plane. Check first what exess weight will cost before buying heavy gear. It might not be worth it.

LARP equipment:
There all sorts of levels from modern tent with basic gear up to middleage knights tent with own bed. Nobody is looked down at because they have not got the gear. All are aware that it takes time and/or money to get your kit together. Your outfit may look simple, but do not let it look cheap.

Assassine:
People come to the envents to fight, not be backstabbed and dead before able to do anything. For this reason assassines are unliked and not really playable. As for ninjas, I have only experienced them to be very juvenile. For this reason you would be put into that corner, even if you have a rich charakter (in terms of background).

Making own weapons:
If you have the skill - why not. As you seem new to LARP altogether I would advise you to look around what is in usage and what the standard is. Then you can try to make your own to meet these standards.
