I've had a great time on Mythodea. I was one of the NPCs of the Black Ice, fighting you Anyway, since I run a LARP blog, I decided to write about my experiences here:

I'll share here my favourite Black Ice moment.

I played Khassim an Air Elemental, and Gene played Hani, my IC brother.


We'd gone to the Air Camp so Khassim could pay her respects to the Avatar of Air. In order to demonstrate we were there on a peaceful mission, we left our weapons behind.

On our return from Air Camp we were walking down the long road back to the town, chatting to ourselves while next to a larger group of people. We're talking away, then suddenly realise we were alone - the group of people we'd been walking with having retreated far back up the road.

We look the OTHER way and see a wall of Black Ice.

We look back to the group, who seem very far away now.

We look back to the Black Ice who seem closer than ever.

We remark that maybe it was very, very VERY STUPID to leave without our weapons!

Hani's suggestion is to step off the path so that maybe the Black Ice will run right past us. After all, we're just two un-armed travellers. Hardly an appealing target, right?

Wrong.

The Black Ice come at us, weapons drawn, screaming lusty battle screams. BAM BAM BAM. I take enough hits to go down. The Black Ice run off toward other victims, leaving us to nurse our wounds and consider the foolishness of our actions.

It. Was. Awesome.

I'll always have that memory of my brother and I looking at a row of Black Ice, being unarmed, and feeling DOOOOOMED. So thank your Schwarz Eis brothers for us!


(As an amusing side note, when I fell I dove into the bushes on the side of the road. Turns out they were stinging nettles. Turns out I'm very allergic to them! I had to visit the paramedics that night and still have marks on my arms from the plants! Souvenirs of Mythodea!)

We had the same situation (ok, WITH weapons and only a "Faust" Schwarzes Eis), chose the same strategy but were instantly bashed and woke up looking in the faces of two alien healers.
Nevertheless, that triggered nice roleplay afterwards; including meeting more healers and having my char blessed by Aeris. =)

i had a simmilar experience with the Black Ice.

on thursday i accidentally shot one of the officers in the groin. Then on saturday as i tried to walk off the field in front of the aircamp, that same officer came marching up the field with his men. He sees me, i see him. He recognises me, i regocnise him. Het gets a nasty grin, i get a oh shit, im fucked look on my face. His men start running, i put my hand on my hat and run like Jack Sparrow. I got away, but it was scary as hell...

I don't see the points about black ice being mean...

First morning (thursday) I had to go to the little mens room.. So I put on my cloak and trousers and took a walk towards the fire camp toilets (Aqua toilets where under attack of Pestilence I believe)

As I was a bit moody (homesickness for the win) I walk aside the path towards the toilets. From behind people where screaming in german: Watch out Schwarzes eis coming!

When i'm just awake...my german aint that good, so I ignored it. Put my cloak around me. And walked on. Somewhere halfway between the toilets and the city, I suddenly did not walk alone anymore.. got metal sounds all around me. So I look on the side, see a grinning schwarzes eis officer I believe, who asked me what I was doing (in slow german, thank god) So I explained that i really had to go to the toilets.

They somewhat brought me there, i did not even die or get wounded..
So I asked my self out loud back in our camp: What did I do wrong...


I want to thank the black ice group that somewhat escorted me to the toilets, instead of butchering me to pieces...

Many Germans consider themselves out-time when they are just heading to the toilets or showers and start complaining when they are attacked on the way. Some are even very afraid of (pretty lame) assassinations right next to the buildings and run or walk armed.
I guess it was just out-time pity and courtesy.^^ The SE is only mean in-time but very social and player-friendly out-time. Most German NPC rather consider themselves a kind of entertainer enriching the play of the others.

Oh, in past the SE (Schwarzes Eis) really spared/ignored little groups alongside the way like, "no need to bother with them, they can't interfer with our mission". So I even advised my friends (in-time) to act insignificantly - just before they knocked us down anyway. Maybe because my pals just had an argument and did look like trouble, maybe to destroy that chliche of being not-so-dangerous for individuals.^^

Just read your blog about your experiences at mythodea. Really nice.

I think I ran in to you shortly at the black ice camp site on Tuesday.

We were a small group of players in full gear passing through, when we suddenly were "attacked".

I had a short talk with a Croatian guy from swarm 1. Must have been you.

I'll also be reading your blog about Drachenfest, as we are some people from my group, who are thinking about going to drachenfest next year before Mythodea.
